Mark joined Fine Law Firm in 2005 after handling federal and white collar criminal defense cases as an associate attorney in the office of Billy Blackburn. Prior to working with Mr. Blackburn, Mark served as clerk for New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Gene Franchini, one the most courageous and beloved judges ever to preside in the State.

As a criminal defense attorney with Fine Law Firm, Mark’s signature cases included a homicide trial which he appealed to the Supreme Court and won, State v. Juan, 148 N.M. 747, and the successful defense of a client who was federally indicted in the infamous Metro Courthouse Scandal.

Since 2008, Mark has focused exclusively on civil cases, predominantly civil rights, personal injury, and medical malpractice prosecutions. Mark has guided clients to large recoveries in complex cases against governmental entities and large corporations through settlement and, when necessary, trial and appeal. In 2011, the ACLU named Mark the cooperating attorney of the year for his work in representing the victims of prison rape.

Although Mark takes great pride in his legal skills, he approaches his role as counselor with equal vigor. In addition to creative and aggressive litigation, effective client representation means helping the client make the best possible decisions at critical junctures in the case. When faced with such a decision, Mark will listen to your goals and concerns, inform you of the foreseeable risks and benefits pertaining to each alternative, and help you weigh those risk and benefits in order to reach the best decision. When coupled with aggressive representation, good decisions tend to lead to good outcomes.
